Ice Breaker - My Purpose of life

The River flows with a purpose!
The Sky is limitless with a purpose!
The mountain is still with a purpose!

Nothing happens in this universe without a purpose.

With purpose people renounce their whole life!
With purpose people spend all their hard earned money,
With purpose people sacrifice their Saturday morning!!

Some great person rightly said, "The greatest tragedy in life is not death but a life without a purpose".

Fellow Toastmasters and dear guest! Good morning!!

I will tell my life story decade by decade!

First Decade:
My father was a school teacher and mother a homemaker. I was from a typical village in Odisha. The village environment is such that, you will feel the entire village as your own house. Yes, I have experienced it and I have lived it. All my childhood days passed there playing and growing. I grew there as if a plant is growing, unaware about its outcome into flowers, or fruits or may be just a tree. There was absolutely no future worriness, neither repent from past; only the blissful present. What a wonderful purpose of life!

Second decade:
I realised that there were many must to do things in life without which life will be incomplete, insecure & incompetent. Schooling was the primary thing in that list. Remaining all were optional. After half a decade again realised that Schooling was just a starter but the main-course was still there, the College life. The main decision maker of life was the PU which would ensure my future status, which College I would be placed for Engineering. A good college would save the life being insecure. In Engineering, Kept running with 50 different academic subjects, 4 years divided into 8 semesters. I passed obstacles like 24 class tests, 8 main exams and couple of Vivas. I had to complete all those. I was realising that the world is a stage of competition and world outside me are my competitors. Every time we need to face wars and that is the way to survive.

Third decade:
Being part of the competition, I completed all my educations including my MS. Got job in an IT Company called Novell Software, in Bangalore. To meet other expectations and fulfilment of life, married to a beautiful girl. Blessed to be a proud father of a 5 years old boy.
As responsibility increased, so was my need. To meet other expectations changed the job and finally placed in a world class technology giant called "Amazon". Gradually as money increased, so was the ego and the ego often makes the man heavy.
  • Earlier a BMTC bus was good enough to commute, but now a luxury car is unable to satisfy my ego.
  • A Paying Guest was good enough to stay but now 3 BHK flat is not able to provide a sound sleep.
  •  A bun samosa in nearby bakery was good enough but now Pizza is not able to satisfy the greed.
  • Pan shop was good enough to meet a friend for hours, now ego never gets satisfied if I do not go to CCD even for 10 minutes meet.

With each material expectation met, each goal reached, each ego satisfied; we get some happiness; which is temporary & short lived. Take a moment and think through. Can we calculate how much life time, life energy we are spending to get a single ego satisfied?

Ladies and gentleman,

A Dog biting a piece of sharp bone  and it's mouth is completely hurt and bleeding, And it is socking it's own blood, thinking that it is coming from the bone. The current luxurious life is similar to this.

Is going to Office by a luxury Car is Bliss?
Is going to Pub and drinking a Cocktail is bliss?
Is owning an apartment is Bliss?

If they are then;
Why is that happiness not permanent?
Why is the vacuum of greediness still the same vacuum?
Why does the glass never look full?

Our culture and civilisation have been existing since thousands years, So many saints and sages took birth here. They explored the life thoroughly. They have given us Ved, Upanisad, Purana, Itihas. They taught us -  "sa vidya ya vimuktaye",  “Knowledge liberates you, makes your free”. But today's education binds you, binds you with EMI. You cannot go, if you try to escape, police will catch you. What a life!

Swami Vivekananda has told that, I am part of Sat-chit-ananda "Sachidananda", Part of truth, existence and bliss-absolute. Where is Bliss? Where is absolute consciousness? Where are they?
  • I have to exist, because I have to fulfil others expectation
  • I have to survive, because I have to fight the never ending war
  • I have to be because I have to pay the EMI.

So
  • Is not it important to understand the real purpose of life?
  • Is not it important to understand who am I and why I am here?

So Friends, a serious thought should be given to our purpose of life and where are we placed. Yes, the main purpose of life is to understand the real purpose of life.
